About on Willy Watch

About a few years ago I went to the G-shock store here in New York city. I needed a watch that was reliable and tuff and didn’t need to worry if I was dropped from the Empire state building. It was the first time being in the store. I've passed many times but I got a new job back then in the transportation and commercial and when you have a job like that you're going to be moving around a lot, that’s why I went with G-shock from Casio.

When I went inside the store a huge smile came about and somehow wished that I could buy almost all of the watches that were available and didn’t want to leave and that’s when it reminded me that ever since childhood I've gotten a watch and given my father a watch to wear on special occasions.

Instead of just buying one G-shock I got 2 of them, one for work and the other for the weekend. But somehow I need more of this enjoyment just looking at these watches, so I started doing some research on how to start an affordable collection and learn more about all different kinds of watches. I went online and bought some other watches like Citizen, Timex, Nixon, and also got a Movement watch but what can I say I was learning as I went. And yes I went back to G-shock and got more of their watches.

After that I found out about a horology class in Manhattan but every time it was booked, I patiently waited and took the class for an hour and half. It was to dissect a mechanical watch and put it back together. And I must say it was well worth the time and money.

Did I mention that I started following a couple of youtuber watch channels and for my Birthday I got a comprehensive book on horology.

Now after doing all of this I finally decided to start this website in the world of watches. I’m still learning even to this day, especially with mechanical watches.

The goal for willywatch.com is to keep the world of watches to keep on ticking ( no pun intended). I feel like this generation is not as enthusiastic as it once was. We are in the age of technology that when we ask “what time is it?” They look at their phones to give you the response and when it comes to smartwatches is mostly to answer the phone or use it as an exercise accessory.

Most mechanical have been around for more than 300 years but the oldest one dates back to around the year 1530. It would be great that another 300 plus years would continue not just for us watch enthusiasts but also we must understand the men and women that make these magnificent creations. They put years into the knowledge and training in mostly mechanical watches and we must give support to them.

I’m surprised that the digital and the mechanical as of now have worked together in harmony and some of the old school watch manufacturers have added some digital watches to the options list. And when the Apple watch came out we all thought that it was the end of an era again for the mechanical watch, they already had bad memories when the quartz era came to be thanks to the Seiko watch in the 70's.

As you can see this is the reason why willywatch has been created and as time passes more things are going to be added. I have seen watches that amazes me. If I can afford it or not at the moment, I would look at it for hours and ask many questions. Some things I must have forgotten to say but in the end I hope you understand where I’m coming from.
